This week I am starting a series of posts each week to offer my tips on applying effective Visual Merchandising techniques for successful digital content.
I have attached my first post below which explores the importance of applying the principles of Repetition, Alternation and the power of 3 to digital content ;
Hello Everyone and welcome to my first VM Club post of 2026 !
Today I start a series of my effective Visual Merchandising tips for successful digital content.
Starting with e-commerce sites I want to start by going back to the 4 VM principles which we apply to window compositions and in store Visual Merchandising. These 4 principles can also be applied successfully to your website.
Starting with the power of 3 , the principle of repetition is very effective online as our customers eye has a central focal point to focus upon, which then helps to frame the eye leading it to the products either side.
We typically see an increased click through rate on the central icon of product , so ensure the brand or product you are positioning within the centre is the product you want to “PUSH “ to the customer first – this location will be the first focal point !
Take a look at the channel post to view an effective example from Liberty London, where they have created 3 product tabs across their homepage. Notice how our eye is drawn to the middle icon – which features the Liberty fragrance. This example also showcases the principle of Alternation, using Liberty’s Beauty Hall of Frame & Self Love either side to frame the central tab. A great example of alternation of colours across these 3 product tabs.
